Freedom of Information Act

The Nigerian Institute of Medical Research in its proactive nature trained the Senior Management Committee on the FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT OF 2011 on Tuesday 2nd November 2021.


The training complies with section 13 of the Act which mandates public institutions to ensure the provision of appropriate training for its officials on the public’s right to access to information or records held by a government or public institutions.

CHVG National HIV Drug Resistance Laboratory

The World Health Organization (WHO) designated the Centre for Human Virology & Genomics (CHVG), Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR) as a national HIV drug resistance laboratory to perform HIV drug resistance testing for surveillance activities in Nigeria.

This is a new phase for medical research in Nigeria. Nigerian Institute of Medical Research Foundation (NIMR Foundation) will be launching later this year and it is taking up the responsibility of building capacity for translational research in Nigeria.
Their activities include:

  • Sponsorship of PhD and Medical Fellowships.
  • Travel grants.
  • Post-Doctoral Fellowships.
    Sabbaticals.
  • Grantsmanship and Mentorship Trainings.These opportunities will be open to all Nigerians across the 36 states and FCT.
