Sustaining Health Outcomes through the Private Sector (SHOPS) Plus is a USAID’s flagship initiative in Private Health Sector implemented by Abt Associates and seeks to harness the full potentials of the private sector. This is to catalyze public-private engagement to improve health outcomes in Tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, Maternal and Child Health, among other health areas. The goal of SHOPS Plus-TB is to increase the availability of and access to TB services in the private sector by establishing a network of private health providers from different cadres to detect, diagnose and successfully follow up and treat tuberculosis disease.

In line with this goal, SHOPS Plus,in collaboration with the Center for Tuberculosis Research (CTBR), Nigerian Institute of Medical Research Lagosis supporting the Lagos State Tuberculosis and Leprosy Control Program to conduct a 5-day training on AFB Microscopy for laboratory scientists from private stand-alone laboratories and private facility-based laboratories in Lagos State.

The aim of the training is to build the capacity of personnel in these private laboratories to provide high quality TB diagnostic and treatment monitoring services.

As part of the Institute’s contribution, the National Tuberculosis Reference Laboratory at the CTBR will be used for the hands on training on AFB microscopy for the participants from the 15th to 17th August, 2018.
