The group at its inaugural meeting set the following as its objectives;

    • Contribute to the reduction of the national and global HIV/TB disease burden through research
    • Generate scientific data that can help improve policies and interventions in the control of HIV and TB
    • Coordinate basic, applied and operational research on HIV/AIDS in line with NIMR’s mandate and the 2010-2015 strategic plan of NACA
    • Coordinate applied and operation research on TB in NIMR in line with the Institute’s mandate and the strategic plan of the TB and Leprosy Control Programme
    • Disseminate important research findings / information on HIV and TB at both national and global levels

    The research base and activities of the group will be supported by the Bio-Safety L-3 TB Laboratory and the Human Virology Laboratories of the Institute
