  • Implementation of Quality Management System (QMS) and internal lab audit:
  • Aimed at quality services and eventual accreditation of the laboratory.
  • Maintaining and providing un-interrupted essential services: even during the COVID-19 lock-down period, essential routine laboratory/research services did not suffer.
  • Involved in interdepartmental research collaborations:
  • COVID-19 Sero-epidemiology Study in Nigeria (using Abott i1000 and some of the staff of CDD; PI: Prof R. Audu et al).
  • ApoL1 research project of the DG and other Co-researchers (using the TC matrix and some staff of CDD; PI- DG).
  • Sterility Assessment of locally produced face masks by the public in Lagos, NIGERIA during COVID-19 Pandemic (A collaborative research among staff of CDD and MB&BT Department, NIMR; PI: Dr TY Raheem)
  • Vit D, Liver enzymes and Kidney function Assessment in SARS COV-2 infected and uninfected individuals in Lagos, Nigeria. (PI: Dr TY Raheem)- ongoing (about 52 samples processed).
  • Utility of temperature measurement using non-contact infrared thermometer in detecting abnormal temperature as an infection control measure in the era of COVID-19(A collaborative research among staff of CDD and Public Health Department, NIMR; PI: Dr B. Adewale/Dr TY Raheem).

  • Involvement of CDD Staff in National Programmes of FMoH/other agencies: malaria elimination programmes of FMoH and the Kit validation by MLSCN:(Focal persons: Mr S.K Akindele and Mrs M. Aniedobe).
  • Providing quality internship training for eligible graduates of MLS and others:  As part of NIMR’s mandate on capacity building and training of human resources for health in Nigeria through collaboration with universities and other training institutions, CDL was involved in the training of the following categories of Interns /IT students:

  • Infrastructural up grading of CDD: new Air-conditioners in the laboratory, refurbishment of departmental common room with Conference table, chairs, Air Conditioners see pictures later etc.
  • Support to Polio containment programme of FMoH: CDD was one of the sites selected for handling/treatment of  faecal samples as potential polio virus containing samples.
  • Upgrading of CDL to a department:
  • landmark achievement. SMC at her meeting of 16th September, 2021 approved the upgrading of CDL to a department.
