WAHO & NiBSA Courtesy Visit

Delegates of West African Health Organisation (WAHO) lead by Professor Sow, the Head of Region-Wide Laboratory Services with the Nigerian Biological Safety Association President (NiBSA) Prof. Abiodun Denloye during a courtesy visit to Director-General / CEO, NIMR after inspection of Laboratory Facilities at Central Research Lab (CRL) & Centre for Human virology & Genomics (CHVG), NIMR for Sequencing and Toxicology Laboratory Strengthening in the West-Africa Region.

Trinity University Collaboration

The Vice-chancellor, Trinity University, Prof. Charles Korede Ayo and Dr. Modupeade Adetunji, Ag. Dean, Basic Medical & Applied Sciences, Trinity University visited NIMR on 17th August 2021 to deliberate on research and academic collaborations with the institute.

The collaboration and MOU will provide NIMR research staff the opportunity of adjunct research positions in the university.

MTN Foundation Donation

MTN Foundation (MTNF) donated an Oligo-Synthesis machine to the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR) on Friday, 13th of August, 2021. This is in furtherance of MTN Nigeria’s corporate social responsibilities and interest in fostering health research in Nigeria.

The MTN Foundation (MTNF) donated Oligo- synthesizer and Laboratory was commissioned by the Honorable Minister of State for Health, Senator (Dr.) Olorunnimbe Mamora. According to him, Nigeria is poised to contribute remarkably to public health response, research, and development.

The MTN Foundation (MTNF) donated Oligo- synthesizer equipment capable of making short synthetic DNA or RNA copies of organisms and produce genetic materials to aid molecular and synthetic genetic testing, forensic research, and applications in vaccine and drug development, nutrigenomics, local design, and development of diagnostics and many more uses in research and development.

According to the DG-NIMR Prof. Babatunde Lawal Salako, the Oligo-Synthesis machine donated by MTN Foundation is indeed not only for research in NIMR but for the benefit of extending the frontiers medical research and services in Nigeria and the West African region. He thanked MTN Foundation and MTN Nigeria for boasting Nigerian researchers’ capacities in medical diagnostics, and experimental vaccine and drug development.
